3-D visualization on operator’s screen as a new opportunity in using SCADA system (HMI)

3-D visualization is SCADA for control systems

With the growth of computer hardware and software, the operator in the control room has got the opportunity to see more realistic representation of the process, using 3-D elements in the HMI.

In current projects during development of visualization systems (SCADA), automation engineers of INFOCOM LTD apply the experience of colleagues in objects 3-D-design and use three-dimensional shapes during development of visualization screens.

The latest projects using 3-D visualization on the operator’s screen were made in the development environment Siemens TIA Portal WinCC Professional.

To date, the database of INFOCOM LTD has more than 1000 units of 3-D elements that can be used in project for various industries.

The up-to-date dispatcher screen for 55 "monitor now looks like this:

Advantages of 3-D visualization systems:

  • Improving the realism of the image compared to SCADA-screens made in 2D projection;
  • Ability to show the location of controls without creating additional connecting lines;
  • Keeping a balance between 2-D and 3-D visualization allows you to present information in a clearer way.

The level of detail can differ:

The level of detail can differ:

Take, for example, older visualization screens, such as the 2014 project:

Если взять для примера более старые экраны визуализации, например проект 2014 года:

Then modern screens win with the number of details, realism and clarity. Moreover, in practice, when performing on-site upgrades, our software engineers leave the opportunity to switch from the new 3-D screens to the old look, but in practice, the old screens are no longer used by operators.
